Distribusion and CarTrawler to expand bus transfer solutions for airlines

Berlin & Dublin, 31 January 2017 – Distribusion Technologies, the global aggregator of intercity and shuttle bus services, has today announced its partnership with CarTrawler, the leading online travel technology platform. This deal significantly expands CarTrawler’s range of bus transfer solutions offered to its B2B partners. Distribusion’s pre-bookable bus transfers will be merchandised within CarTrawler’s dedicated ancillary revenue platform for airlines. This new pre-paid bus content is available to all one hundred of CarTrawler’s airline partners and 2,000 online travel retailers as part of their travel itinerary, with immediate effect.

Distribusion offers its partners millions of airport shuttle and intercity bus rides across thousands of global destinations at the best price. Through CarTrawler’s airline ancillary merchandising platform, customers have full visibility of scheduled travel information including supplier name and ‘included services’ that customers can expect on a journey, such as availability of in-bus WiFi and power sockets. Open tickets provide customers with 24 hour flexibility before and after the departure time of their flight, making this an ideal solution for airlines.

Announcing the launch, Julian Hauck, CEO of Distribusion, said:

“We are very excited to launch this partnership with CarTrawler. Today, customers expect more than just a flight or a hotel, but rather a complete end-to-end travel arrangement. With airport shuttles and intercity bus rides, airline customers now benefit from the cheapest available option to get to and from the airport, city centre or any other destination close-by. Combining flight and bus bookings enables travellers a seamless way of booking their entire journey.”

Tommi Holmgren, Director of Ground Transportation at CarTrawler, said:

“It’s an exciting time for the travel industry. Invisible boundaries that used to exist between products and services have now all but vanished, opening up new opportunities across every segment of the travel industry. With the widening of our existing bus transfers product, alongside car rental, taxi, private transfer and train solutions, our travel partners no longer need to leak customers to other websites nor are they forced to work directly with them, exposing their valuable customer data”.

“Our service, like our customer’s journey, doesn’t start and end at the airport. We continue to invest in our technology and expand our customer offering. Pre-booking offers peace of mind to customers, helping them to plan their travel arrangements from door to door, however they choose to travel” he added.

Intercity bus booking picks up speed: Amadeus Germany and Distribusion to work together

Collaboration enables access to intercity bus connections across multiple providers for the first time using the Amadeus Selling Platform

Berlin, 12 July 2016 – Together, Amadeus and Distribusion are facilitating access to intercity bus ticket bookings for travel agencies in the German-speaking markets. Integration into the Amadeus Selling Platform is planned for the third quarter of 2016. Distribusion’s entire portfolio of intercity and shuttle buses currently spans more than 60 bookable providers from all over Europe.

More than 60 providers in one system: Book intercity bus tickets quickly and easily

Through this new collaboration, travel agencies will for the first time be able to draw upon intercity and shuttle bus connections from over 60 providers in more than 25 countries through the Amadeus Selling Platform. To this end, Amadeus is introducing the new “Intercity Bus” tab, through which travel agencies can search for, compare and book intercity bus connections. Booked tickets can be printed right at the travel agency, or can be sent to customers via e-mail. Travel agencies will receive a commission of up to 15 percent for every ticket sold, and will also receive a single comprehensive invoice every month outlining commissions for all providers. Additional integration into mid- and back-office systems is also in the works.

Book intercity and shuttle bus connections to 1,500 destinations in Europe

Distribusion founder Julian Hauck outlines the benefits for travel agencies: “These days, many customers want more than just a flight and a hotel, but rather complete door-to-door travel planning. Intercity and shuttle buses are perfectly suited to round off just this kind of service, whether it’s an airport shuttle, a city bus trip, or an onward journey while on vacation. Buses are an ideal additional business opportunity for travel agencies, and are flexible and versatile thanks to the many direct city-to-city connections available worldwide.”

Over 3.4 million intercity and shuttle bus connections – to 1,500 destinations in more than 25 countries in Europe – can already be booked through Distribusion, including with well-known providers like Postbus, berlinlinienbus.de and National Express. Several new bus providers will follow suit leading up to the launch of the new collaboration in the third quarter of 2016.

“Distribusion and Amadeus have the same goal: we want to make it easier for travellers to reach their destination using the means of transportation of their choice, letting them book it easily and all in one place – at a travel agency, for example,” explains Uta Martens, Head of Sales at Amadeus Germany. “The linking of Distribusion to the Amadeus Selling Platform once again shows the benefits of integrating into our GDS: in one easy step, bus providers gain access to the vast majority of German-speaking travel sales outlets. Travel agencies can sell services from yet another travel segment at their counter, and can immediately profit from the increasing popularity of this expanding market. We are very excited about this collaboration.”

Julian Hauck is also convinced that the two companies can benefit from working together: “This collaboration is a milestone for stationary travel agencies, as well as for the intercity bus market segment. We are very excited to work together with Amadeus to facilitate the sale of bus services around the world. Travellers will also get an additional and attractive option when making travel arrangements.“

Rome2rio partners with Distribusion in move towards onsite bus bookings

Berlin, 17th May 2016 – Rome2rio, the multimodal search specialist, has today announced a partnership with Distribusion, the global distributor for bus products simplifying global bus travel. The partnership allows Rome2rio users to search its site for available bus tickets from 165 operators worldwide. The content has been implemented through the Distribusion API.

The partnership marks the 1st step towards integrating intercity and shuttle bus bookings into Rome2rio and forms part of an ongoing strategy of the company to offer more onsite bookings; including integrations with SilverRail and Travelport who offer rail and flight bookings respectively. The company is driving these key partnership across Europe to address the needs of their predominate user base; over 65% of Rome2rio’s traffic originates in Europe.

Discussing the partnership, Rome2rio CEO Rod Cuthbert said: “This partnership is one of several deals that mark our intention to be a major player in consumer flight, rail, bus and ferry bookings worldwide, with the distinct advantage over rivals of a powerful search engine capability that allows users to perform the discovery phase of their booking process on the same site as the booking itself.”

Explaining the company’s strategy in more detail, Cuthbert said “That search advantage delivers consistent, high-volume and rapidly growing traffic to Rome2rio. Our users are asking questions like ‘How do I get from Split to Ancona?’ and ‘How do I get from Dublin to Birmingham?’ which other sites can only answer in part. Because so many journeys can be done in multiple ways, and because so many have multiple components, savvy users are nowadays looking for a site which gives them all the transport options and all the journey components. That’s a job we do uniquely well,” he said.

Distribusion founder Julian Hauck explains the benefits for both sides: “In many parts of the world buses are the main mode of long-distance transportation. With the recent market liberalisations in Europe, buses have become more popular as a travel option. We are very happy to provide Rome2rio with the best bus portfolio possible to make international bus rides available to their users. We provide information for more that 165 bus operators, making us the largest distribution system for bus products worldwide.”

Distribusion receives seven-figure investment

By | Press release | No Comments

Intercity bus GDS aims to enhance technology and tap into new markets

Berlin, 31th March 2015 – HR Ventures, the venture capital company of e-Ticketing specialist Hahn Air, and Frühphasenfonds Brandenburg are jointly investing a seven-figure amount in the Berlin-based travel tech start-up Distribusion Technologies (www.distribusion.com). With the investors’ capital and industry expertise, the company aims to continue its rapid growth, enhance its own technology and open up additional European markets.

Fresh capital for product development and internationalization

Distribusion is developing the first global distribution system (GDS) for the international intercity bus market. The fresh capital will be specifically targeted towards technical product development and the expansion of sales activities. In the coming months, several new intercity bus operators from Great Britain, France, Poland, Spain and south-eastern European countries will become integrated into the system. In addition, a booking solution that allows for direct booking of intercity bus tickets over an online interface is being developed for online travel portals and for application in stationary travel agencies.

In doing so, Distribusion helps to solve two key problems within this growing industry, first by enabling the standardization of intercity bus information, and second by allowing for cost-effective linking of national and international intercity bus companies to wide-ranging sales channels within the travel industry, such as travel agencies, online travel portals and mobile apps. Thus far, Distribusion is working together with 40 intercity bus companies and provides mobility portals such as Qixxit, Waymate or Coachfairer with standardized content on intercity buses.

Industry experts are backing Distribusion

Helmut Stiglbauer, Advisor at HR Ventures, has over 37 years of experience in the travel industry and previously held executive positions at Lufthansa, FTI and Travelocity. He explains the investment decision: “We are especially convinced of Distribusion’s technology and business model. In addition, their team is very motivated, innovative and energetic. This start-up has the potential to permanently and sustainably change international intercity bus sales, and set new standards in the industry. We are excited to support the founders with our extensive industry experience as they develop their product further and tap into new markets.”

Lars Michalak, a partner at bmp, adds, “The intercity bus market is growing vigorously, not only in Germany but worldwide as well, and at the same time offers a great deal of potential for technological innovation. Distribusion’s founders have followed the development of the German intercity bus market from the outset and have already been able to attract numerous customers for their sales solutions. This speaks to the current need within the industry and we are convinced that this rapid growth can be maintained with the new investment.“

Founder and CEO Julian Hauck summarizes: “With HR Ventures, bmp and the Frühphasenfonds Brandenburg on board, we are very excited to gain experienced investors for our mission. With their support, we can now expand into additional European markets. Being the venture capital company of Hahn Air, HR Ventures boasts extensive industry experience and holds great expertise with distribution systems and we are certain to benefit greatly from their support.”

First GDS for Intercity Buses

Distribusion Technologies connects bus operators with travel resellers worldwide

Berlin, 2nd February 2015 – The rapidly growing European intercity bus market presents the travel industry with new challenges in the fields of IT and distribution. Distribusion Technologies (www.distribusion.com) marks the launch of the world’s first global distribution system developed especially for intercity buses. The company’s goal is to streamline the sale of bus tickets, which will benefit bus operators and travel resellers alike.

Simplifying intercity bus sales

The Berlin-based travel-tech startup connects travel resellers with national and international bus operators, thus simplifying the process of selling bus tickets that are valid across multiple operators. The company enables travel agencies, websites (OTAs) and mobile apps to offer its customers a wide range of bus products through a single integrated technology platform.

Distribusion aims to make possible for buses what has long been standard practice for other modes of transportation: “You can easily book a flight at any travel agency or website around the world. This is not possible for intercity bus tickets,” says Julian Hauck, CEO and co-founder. ”We want to change that and make distribution of bus products as simple and cost-efficient as possible.” In terms of the benefits for retailers, Hauck notes that, “Up until now, travel agencies and OTAs have had to connect to various providers and maintain multiple reservation systems. We are offering a one-stop solution with all intercity bus products from a single source with the highest data quality.” This reduces the retail costs of booking and fulfillment processes, and enables retailers to offer bus tickets for multiple providers.

New technology for a fast-growing market

The company is already collaborating with more than 30 bus operators and provides standardized bus content for dozens of travel websites. This number is expected to double in the coming months. “The rapid growth of the market boosts our own growth strategy,” explains Julian Hauck. “The German market grew by 140% since last year and in the US intercity buses are the fastest-growing means of long distance transport.”

The company draws on many years of experience in the bus market, with the founders having already established one of Germany’s most successful online platforms for buses. “Our experience with retailing bus products has shown that the industry requires a specialized solution for its international distribution” says Hauck.
